8 Things To Bring To The Next Music Festival

By Sara Mathes on June 27, 2016

Summer: it’s the time for lounging at the beach, eating delicious fruits and vegetables, and gigantic outdoor music festivals. I’ve been to a few music festivals in my day, and they are certainly no cakewalk. With implacable heat, overpriced drinks, hordes of sweaty people, and shoddy cell service, one cannot simply go unprepared.

Packing is one of my very few life skills. You’re going on a trip for two weeks and you only have one tiny duffel bag? I’ve got you. You can’t figure out how to get all the stuff from your dorm to fit in your car? I’m there. You want to know what to bring for a Music Festival? Simply check out this handcrafted guide of items I’ve curated just for you. So break out your John Lennon esq. hippy sunglasses, and enjoy.

1. A bag of some sort. I recommend a cross body bag so you can have both hands free for dancing purposes. If you’re not feeling that, a backpack is also a good option (but can occasionally be annoying to get into festivals with, if there’s a separate line for backpacks).

2. Sunscreen stick. It’s easy to apply and usually doesn’t take up too much room. Also, putting on a full coat of regular sunscreen and letting it soak in before going to the festival is a recipe for a burn-free festival experience.

3. A water bottle that can hook onto your bag. We gotta have those hands free! If you were thinking about ditching the water bottle, think again. Festivals will regularly charge $4 and up for a bottle and will usually have some sort of fountain doohickey for free. Hydration is important, but don’t give up your first born son for a little H2O.

4. Sunglasses and/or hat. The summer sun is totally harsh, man, not to mention how cool you look with your sunnies on.

5. Makeup touch-up essentials. There’s nothing worse than having the signature festival look you spent days (weeks?) slaving over go incognito on you. Packing your lipstick and perhaps a little mascara goes a long way. If you’re running out of space, I recommend getting the sample size version.

6. Monies and ID. Look for bags that have a concealed pocket to keep your hard-earned dollars in. This way you don’t have to bring a bulky wallet and if your bag were to go missing you won’t lose all of your credit cards as well.

7. Your phone. Hopefully you have some sort of case on it because with all those strangers bumping you around, there’s a good chance your phone will meet the ground.
