Waka Flocka Flame Is Now Selling Cough Drops
Last night, the most irrelevant music awards show on this side of the Teen Choice Awards were held in Los Angeles, and whatever you expected to happen, happened. One Direction won basically every award they were nominated for (thereby immediately discrediting the entire “music” awards show), Lorde got onstage and once again showed us why she shouldn’t be around a bunch of flashing lights (or onstage at all), divorced mother-of-two Jennifer Lopez flashed America her labia in a skimpy leotard and Taylor Swift still can’t sing.
But the most important part of the night was, without a shadow of doubt, rapper Waka Flocka Flame’s 30-second commercial for Pine Brothers cough drops. If you didn’t catch it last night during the commercial break (which wouldn’t surprise me, it is the American Music Awards we’re still talking about here), here’s a quick synopsis:
1) Intro shot of a typical, middle-of-the-road suburban house; it’s nighttime. Cue soothing piano soundtrack.
2) Cut to a shot of a red-eyed Waka sitting on a couch next to a mysterious rising next to him (the source of smoke is off-camera). He says, “What does Waka Flocka Flame do for minor sore throat relief?”
3) He lifts up three different flavors of Pine Brothers cough drops: “This here.” (Note: they are Lemon Citrus, Licorice and Wild Cherry).
4) “Nothing soothes your throat like soft, delicious Pine Brothers.”
5) Cut back to shot of Waka sitting on couch, smoke still rising next to him from the unknown source.
6) The kicker: “So next time you need sore throat relief…” *looks at smoke, slips camera sly smile* “…for whatever reason………..take your Pine Brothers.” End scene.
I honestly laughed so hard at the commercial that I actually needed cough drops.
Seeing as nobody has ever heard of Pine Brothers, I couldn’t be sure if this spot was real or not, so I Googled it, and let me tell you, it’s legit.
Make what you want of the commercial, but just remember this is the same guy who once offered $50K to anyone who offered to be his official “blunt roller.” According to Waka, over 60,000 people applied.
Well played, Pine Brothers. Well played.
